Grand Island is a city in and the county seat of Hall County, Nebraska. The population was 51,517 at the 2016 census and continues to grow each year. The Grand Island MSA had an official population of 86,360 residents in 2016.
Interstate 80 is located four miles south of the city. US Highway 281 is the main north-south route in the city, running through the city’s west edge south to Hastings, Nebraska, and north to O’Neil, Nebraska. Central Nebraska Regional Airport is located in Grand Island and finished 2017 with 66,880 boardings. Destinations include Dallas, Phoenix and Vegas. The airport opened a brand new 34,000 square foot terminal in 2016.
Grand Island is home to the Nebraska Law Enforcement Training Center which is the sole agency responsible for training law enforcement officers throughout the state, as well as the home of the Southern Power District serving southern Nebraska. Grand Island has a strong support base in favor of building and growing the community to increase quality of life initiatives. In 2014, Grand Island residents passed a 69.9 million dollar Public Schools bond issue to build, expand or renovate seven of its elementary, middle and high schools.
